Where is the An Dinh Palace
An Dinh Palace is located at 97 Phan Dinh Phung, Hue City. The palace is located on the bank of the An Cuu River, only about 2 km from the city center. The central location makes it easy for visitors to combine sightseeing in the 1-day itinerary in Hue
The residence later became the home of Emperor Bao Dai’s family, the final royal family of the Nguyen Dynasty, adding another important chapter to its history. What is special about the architecture of An Dinh Palace?
The overall work of An Dinh Palace is arranged along the main axis, creating a sense of balance and symmetry. The façade stands out with relief details, embossed patterns, and a Western-style arch door system. The main building material was reinforced concrete – quite modern compared to that time.
Currently, there are three main items left on the campus, including: the main gate, Trung Lap Pavilion and Khai Tuong Floor. Each item has its own architectural and historical value.
Main Gate
The main gate is designed with three impressive floors, ornately decorated with motifs combining European and royal traditions. This is the first highlight when entering the palace space
Trung Lap Pavilion
Trung Lap Pavilion has a clearer Asian style with wooden structures and traditional tile roofs. This work creates a harmonious transition between the traditional architecture and the main block at the back.
Khai Tuong Floor
The Khai Tuong Floor is the main, massive, and most prominent remaining architectural work of An Dinh Palace. The name “Khai Tuong” was given by King Khai Dinh himself, which means the onset of good omens. The floor has an area of 745m², including 3 floors with a total of 22 rooms
It is the harmonious combination of Western architecture and Vietnamese royal art that has helped An Dinh Palace become a unique work, adding a different perspective compared to the traditional mausoleum and palace system in Hue.
